It applies to family members of EU residents (including citizens of other EU countries residing in Spain).
These family members are: Spouses or registered partners, children, or parents who are financially dependent and are dependent on the EU citizen.
In a reform to the Regulation of Foreigners in 2015, 987/2015, the European Union obliged Spain to expand the concept of family, which is why this visa can also apply to all those relatives of the EU citizen, spouse or common-law partner, who are economically dependent on the EU citizen for at least the last two years, calling these EXTENDED FAMILY.
These relatives may be:
- Any family member who in his or her country of origin is dependent on or lives with the Union citizen.
- Any member of the family, who for serious health or disability reasons is obliged to be in charge of the citizen of the Union.
- Unregistered domestic partner, who can prove at least one year of marital cohabitation
- Dependents are understood to be all those family members whose economic support is provided by the European Union citizen and who need his or her material assistance for the provision of their basic needs and this must be in the country of origin.
