It is the document issued by the Spanish National Police to Spanish citizens or legal residents requesting the fostering of family or friends for a stay of up to 90 days in a period of 180 days, with the commitment to take care of that person during their stay in the country.
Benefits of the letter of invitation:
- It is an official document that facilitates obtaining a short-stay visa (Schengen visa) and/or the entry of a foreigner into Spain as a tourist.
- Proof of accommodation during the foreigner's stay in Spain
- Responsibility for the reception and commitment to return the foreigner to his/her country of origin or residence.
Application procedure:
- It varies according to the Police Station of the inviting party's place of residence, and among others, a form must be provided, a fee must be paid, and documents proving the guest's identity, dates of entry and dates of entry and exit from Spain must be submitted.
Warning and recommendations:
Although the letter of invitation is not a document that facilitates entry into Spain and/or the obtaining of a Schengen visa, it is not recommended. IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED if the foreigner intends to stay in Spain and/or apply for a residence, since the inviting party acquires responsibilities and a commitment to return the foreigner.
If the Immigration Office responsible for processing the residency application verifies that the applicant entered Spain with a Letter of Invitation, it will be a reason for denial.
Consequence of the non-exit of the foreigner from Spain:
Consequences for both the guest and the invitee, such as administrative sanctions or fines.
Residence in Spain:
If the foreigner intends to reside in Spain, the corresponding visa must be obtained in the country of origin, depending on the purpose of the trip (work, studies, family reunification, among others).
