When a Spanish Nationality by Residence application is presented, it goes through a series of phases until it is resolved:

1. Open-Registered

This is the first phase of the processing of our nationality file. It indicates that the file has been correctly submitted and the Ministry of Justice is aware that the application has been made.

2. Open - In process. Pending request for mandatory reports

3. Open - In process. Pending response of mandatory reports requested.

This status means that the Ministry of Justice has already requested the various reports and is waiting for the various administrations to send it this information.

4. Under Qualification or Under Study

This status indicates that the file is now complete and only a decision remains to be made. This is one of the last stages before a decision is made.

5. Open - In process. The Administration made a request for information

This status appears when the Ministry of Justice has requested internal information about our application. It is not a request for documentation to which you must reply, you just have to wait.

6. In process - Required. Pending receipt of documentation

This phase indicates that the Ministry of Justice has made a request to provide documentation or correct any errors in the file. You will receive a notification from the ministry indicating what documentation must be provided to the file or what must be clarified about the application.

7. In process - Required. Documentation provided

This status appears when the documentation requested by the Ministry of Justice has been provided.

8. Granted

Finally our application for Spanish nationality has been granted. The corresponding resolution of concession of Spanish nationality should arrive by the means indicated in the application.

9. Denied

This status will appear when the application for Spanish nationality has been denied. You should receive the denial resolution through the means indicated in the application.

10. Archived

When the administration has made a request for documentation and it has not been provided, the Ministry of Justice understands that the request has been withdrawn, since the error in the file has not been corrected, and ends up filing the process.
