Can I go to Spain to study from abroad?

The Study Permit is an excellent opportunity for foreigners from outside the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland to develop in the area of studies. This authorization applies to students and can be extended to their family members.

 

The first from the country of origin by filling out and submitting to the corresponding consulate the corresponding form together with a valid travel document or passport.

 

The second way would be the access to the national territory and the beginning of the procedure from the national territory as long as, assuming that the access has been made with a tourist visa, the application is made within 60 days after the entry to the national territory.

 

Are there any application requirements?

The requirements contained in the law are: 

 

  • Be a non-EU citizen, as well as not be a citizen of any of the countries that make up the European Economic Area (Norway, Liechtenstein or Iceland) or be a Swiss national.
  • Not to be considered as being refused entry into the national territory of other countries with which Spain has treaties in this regard.
  • Proof of sufficient economic means to guarantee their stay in Spain. This translates into a requirement of six hundred euros per month or seven thousand two hundred in the period of one year. This requirement will be reduced if the place of stay in the period can be accredited paid.
  • Obtaining insurance to cover any type of accident or contingency that may occur during your stay.
  • To be admitted to an educational center authorized by the Ministry of Universities or, if the studies are not focused on a university degree, that the center is authorized by the Ministry of Education.

 

For those studies that require more than six months of stay for the completion of the course, two additional requirements will be required:

 

  • If the interested party is of legal age, the lack of criminal record will be required.
  • Medical certification that he/she is not a carrier of any disease that may have an impact on public health.

 

The authorization is intended to facilitate the entry into the country for those people who want to develop their training in national territory and to facilitate contact with a new culture such as the Spanish one.

How to fill in the application form?

The applicant must fill in the application form that can be found at interior.gob.es/opencms/en/servicios-al-ciudadano/trámites-y-gestiones/extranjería/regimen-general/carta-de-invitacion/ with the applicant's personal data.

 

  • Name 
  • Sex
  • Date of birth
  • DNI / NIE 
  • Place of birth
  • Country of birth
  • Country of nationality
  • Address 

 

After this in the model it will be necessary to specify the approximate dates of stay from date of entrance in the country to date of exit, with a maximum of 90 days of stay. Then the applicant must fill in the details of the place of accommodation intended to house the person, being possible the applicant's own home or a second one that can prove the availability of the property.

 

Finally, the data of the person to be invited must be filled out in the same way as the applicant's data, as well as the relationship between the inviting party and the invited person.

How long can the processing take?

The processing of the document will be resolved by the assigned instructor at the latest. This instructor may request an interview with the applicant to confirm his/her identity, the validity of the documentation provided and the veracity of the information contained in the application.

In any case, there are two options: the favorable resolution, the notification of which will contain the notice to pick up the letter, as well as the beginning of the term for the payment of the fee. At the moment of collecting the letter, the proof of payment must be presented. 

Or the denial of the same, which in any case must be justified and contain the means of recourse that may be used.
